TRIAL SET FOR MAN IN STINSON ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE - Several Receive Jail Sentences

Judge Thomas Evans III presided over Circuit Court in Calhoun County this week, with a large number of individuals receiving jail sentences.

Prosecutor Shannon Johnson said Adam C. James, 29, of Sutton, appeared for an arraignment for attempted murder, his trial set for March 31, 2015.

James is charged for allegedly shooting Robert "Rob" King, about 40, of Coen Drive, Stinson Road, earlier this year. James was reportedly with another male when the shooting happened in the parking lot of the Mud Fork Church. He and another man reportedly got into an argument with King, allegedly shooting King with a handgun in the head.

David Allen Booher, 49, appeared on a new indictment and another charge from 2011, said Johnson.

After an argument from his attorney, Booher's case from 2011 was dismissed since the State had failed to extradite him in 2012 when he was released from incarceration in Ohio.

Booher's 2014 case for forgery and uttering was set for trial on February 17, 2015.

Clarke Douglas Patterson, 45, Patterson appeared for a pre-trial hearing on his charge of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian. His case will come for trial on October 21st.

A former Braxton County man, Billy Dunbar, Sr., 53, after being indicted in Calhoun on twenty five counts of sexual abuse, including incest, will come to trial on February 17, 2015.

Dunbar turned himself into the WV State Police regarding having a sexual relationship with his 16-year-old daughter and impregnating her.

Mark Harris, 39, was sentenced to six months in the regional jail for possession of a controlled substance. That time was suspended for two years probation after he has served twenty days. He was ordered to pay community corrections fees and for supervised probation.

The sentencing for Zebadiah Noyes Hamrick, 35, facing meth making charges. was continued to October 21.

William Wayne Cottrell, 34, was sentenced to one to five years in the state penitentiary for delivery of a controlled substance. He was assessed court costs and was also ordered to participate in the Department of Corrections drug treatment program.

He had been indicted on one count of purchase, receipt, acquisition, and possession of substances to be used as a precursor to manufacture methamphetamine or another controlled substance, a felony; possession with intent to deliver and delivery of a controlled substance, Methamphetamine, a felony; conspiracy, a felony; and one count of carrying a deadly weapon, a misdemeanor.

Christopher Ferrell was sentenced to six months in the regional jail for two counts of possession of a controlled substance. These sentences are to be served consecutively.

Scotty Lynn Knight, 32, was sentenced to two to ten years in the state penitentiary for operating a clandestine methamphetamine drug laboratory and to two to ten years for purchasing and possessing precursors to manufacture methamphetamine. These sentences are to be served consecutively.

Christina Darlene Wilson, 37, was sentenced to one to five years each on two counts of exposure of children to the manufacture of methamphetamine. These sentences are to be served concurrently. She was ordered to participate in the Department of Corrections residential drug treatment program.

John Cash was ordered to complete a sixty day diagnostic evaluation in the Department of Corrections custody prior to sentencing.

Andrew Tanner appeared for an arraignment hearing related to the theft of an air conditioner from the Minnora Mission. His trial for grand larceny is set for January 30, 2014.

Danny Lockhart appeared on his recent indictment for sexual abuse and manufacture of marijuana. His arraignment is set for October 23rd.

Alfred Starcher appeared on the State's motion to violate his bond. He admitted to the violation and was sentenced to ten days in the regional jail. He will be re-admitted to probation upon his release.

There were thirteen juvenile hearings on this weeks docket.

The next Circuit Court date will be September 30. Judge David W. Nibert will preside over possible jury selections and jury trials.
