Virginia L. Cale, 90 of Elizabeth, WV passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family on
Saturday, September 20, 2014.
She was the daughter of the late Dewey and Iris (Thompson) Ice.
She was a 1943 graduate of Parkersburg High School.
She and her late husband L. Clyde Cale owned and operated the Cale's Dairy farm on Wells Locks Road for many years and received the WV Soil Conservation Award in 1967. They later transformed the farm into Mingo Bottom Golf Course in 1995.
Virginia was a volunteer EMT for Wirt County Emergency Squad. In 1989 she received the Jefferson Award, which was a state award for volunteerism. She was a member of the Elizabeth United Methodist Church, a life-time member of the Wirt County Fair and 4-H Associations, and the Wirt Senior Citizens. Virginia was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her 7 children, Donald Merle Cale (Elizabeth) of Jacksonville FL, Betty Sees Gildow of Longs SC, Lawrence Clyde Cale, Jr. (Karen) of Hickory NC, Steve Cale (Sherry) Cale of Mineral Wells WV, Richard Cale (Colleen) of Elizabeth, Mary Helen Whipkey (Roger) of Elizabeth, and Ann Boyce (John) of Elizabeth. Virginia was survived by 22 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law E. Jean Egbert (Melvin) of Palestine WV,; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 59 years, L. Clyde Cale; two brothers, Harold and Raymond Ice; sister, Mary Radcliff; and two grandsons, Joshua "Duke" Cale and Kevin Sees.
Services will be Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 11:00 am at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth, WV with Pastors Richard and Darin Cale and the Rev. Lee Williams officiating. Visitation will be Monday, September 22 from 4-8 pm and 9-10:30 am prior to the service on Tuesday.
Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Parkersburg, WV.
