Shirley J. Tawney, 67, of Left Hand, West Virginia, died Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, following a brief illness.
She was born January 13, 1947 at Left Hand, a daughter of Juanita Tallman Cook of Left hand and the late Charles Cook.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin D. Tawney; and a granddaughter, Christian Starcher.
Shirley was a former social worker and was a Christian. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horses.
In addition to her mother survivors include, daughter, Vikki Hart of Spencer WV; son, David Alan Smith of Alderson; brothers, Larry Cook and Gary Cook, both of Left Hand; sisters, Sharon Smith of Newton WV and Shelly Carper of Left Hand; grandchildren, Brice Stanley, Savanah Smith, Nathan Smith, Jessica Meredith, Alex Tawney, and Iron Hart; great grandchildren, Preston, Sheldon, and Valicity Starcher.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 15, in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the J. Herbert Smith Family Cemetery, Looneyville. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the time of service.
