2002 - "BEAR" CAME HOME WITH SECOND CHANCE ON LIFE - "Bear" Kerby Has Died At 65, Calhoun Had Two Illustrious "Bears"

(05/12/2021)
5/11/2021 - Lawrence Edward “Bear” Kerby, 65 of Mount Zion, has died.

He was one of two Calhoun "Bears" in recent years whose wit, persona and character will be long remembered.

Randall "Bear" Kenneth Yoak, 67, of Grantsville, passed away in February.

"Bear" never met a stranger. His infectious laugh and sharp sense of humor were among some of the attributes that made him a fixture of his community. If seen out and about, he would always have something to say to those he passed. Known for giving people a hard time, never was it done with more love.

The two "Bears" had been friends.

2002 - A lot has happened to Mt. Zion resident "Bear" Kerby in the past three or so months. After being stricken with heart failure and taken to the Cleveland Clinic, where he waited for a heart transplant, the day arrived when a donor organ arrived and Bear got a new heart.

Bear came home to Calhoun last night.

His mother became seriously ill the same week, and recently died from complications.

Bear's friends have reported he is grateful for his second chance, and has a good attitude about his life.

Welcome home Bear!
