FRONTIER SAYS FIXING LONG-TIME CALHOUN LAND-LINE PHONE PROBLEM SLIGHTLY DELAYED

(08/02/2014)
Frontier says progress is being made in fixing a sub-station at Big Springs that has caused a long-time disruption of land-line service in that community.

In responding to a formal complaint filed by the Calhoun Commission with the WV Public Service Commission, Frontier has changed time frames from their initial response about correcting the problem.

An August 1 update, issued by Angela McCall, manager of government and external affairs, says engineering work (on sub-station replacement) has been completed and the project has been submitted for approval to begin construction.

"It is anticipated the project will be approved by the end of the week (first week of August) at which time materials will be ordered," said McCall.

Earlier, in response to the formal complaint filed against Frontier, the company said that replacement equipment and site selection would be done by the end of July.

"Frontier anticipates engineering will be complete by the end of June. All equipment should be on site and construction is expected to begin by the end of July."

"Prior to the filing of the Calhoun Commission's complaint, Frontier had already started work on evaluating and selecting sites for new equipment to upgrade service in the area."

"In the Big Springs area, the project will include a new Digital Loop Carrier (DLC). Frontier plans to rehabilitate facilities in the Chloe area, as well as installing a replacement remote terminal," Frontier said.

Land-line customers in the greater Big Springs area have experienced frequent disruptions in land-line service for nearly three years, related to non-functioning, antiquated equipment at the sub-station.

A large number of customers, all who complained to the company, sought assistance from the Calhoun Commission, who then filed a formal complaint with the WV-PSC.

Frontier is saying the problem will be resolved by the end of the year.
