The state School Building Authority approved $350,000 Friday in emergency funding for a new elementary school being built on the Lewis-Gilmer County line.
SBA Executive Director David Sneed said the earth has moved behind the construction project with a slip beginning on an adjacent property and got to within 20 feet of the school building.
Sneed said contractors had to take down some scaffolding.
He said the problem did not show up during the school's design phase.
The emergency funding approved Friday will pay a contractor to dig out the dirt and install a drainage system.
The work isn't expected to delay completion of the project.
The school is a regional school project that will house students from Lewis and Gilmer counties.
