GOVERNOR ASKED TO PUSH ATV REGULATIONS - Mon County Senator Wants Restrictions

(10/03/2002)
Three West Virginia teenagers have died in the last week of injuries resulting from separate All-Terrain Vehicle accidents. Monongalia County Senator Mike Oliverio has asked Governor Wise to push for ATV regulations in January of 2003. West Virginia has the nation's highest per capita ATV-related death rate and is one of a few states that has failed to regulate ATV use. The Legislature has left restrictions up to cities. Eleven WV cities have adopted restrictions.

Oliverio said, "Wise also could champion the issue by directing school and highway officials to offer safety and training courses on ATV use, encouraging children to wear helmets when they ride bikes."
