The musical classic "Camelot" by Alan Lerner and Frederick Loewe will open on July 11 at the Friederich Theater in the Hermann Fine Arts Center, 500 Butler Street, Marietta, Ohio. The whole family will enjoy the Tony award-winning story of King Arthur's marriage to Guenevere, played out amid the pageantry of Camelot. Based on "The Once and Future King", it is the age old tale of chivalry, equality, honor and faith in the court of King Arthur.
Presented by Theatre de Jeunesse with a cast of Mid-Ohio Valley young adults, the show opens with King Arthur nervously preparing to meet his new Queen, Guenevere. While initially, Guenevere tries to escape the marriage, the two young people soon fall in love, to the pleasure of Arthur's wise tutor, Merlyn. In order to bring peace and stability to the kingdom, Arthur establishes the Knights of the Round Table who would use their might for right.
Included amongst these knights, is the most famous of them all, Lancelot. Soon, Lancelot and Queen Guenevere fall in love. Their affair is made public by Arthur's evil illegitimate son Mordred and his aunt, the sorceress Morgan le Fey. As a result, peace ends and war breaks out as Arthur's troops prepare to fight Lancelot's French army.
Performance dates are Fridays and Saturdays July 11, 12, 18, and 19 at 8:00 p.m. with matinees at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday July 13 and July 20. Sign language interpretation will be provided for the Sunday, July 20 performance. Ticket prices are $15.00 for adults and $12.00 for senior citizens aged 60 and above and students through college. Opening night special is a "buy one get one free" ticket offer.
