John W. Hickman age 77 of Collins Run Road, Glenville, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord, Friday evening June 6, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 7, 1936 in Gilmer Station, son of the late Oscar Hiram and Mamie Lou Crutchfield Hickman.
John began working in the coal mines of Gilmer County at age 16 and retired in 1995 with 43 years experience. In his younger years he enjoyed going to automobile races and taking care of his 5 beautiful children. John loved fishing, spending time outdoors, listening and dancing to loud country music with his children, having long conversations about the Bible, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a Christian by faith.
On August 1, 1958 he was united in marriage to Mary Frances Cosner, who survives at their Collins Run home.
Surviving are 5 children, Brenda Rexroad and husband Frank of Turkey Fork, Jerry Hickman and companion Mae of Gassaway, Pam Moss and husband John of Glenville, Liz Hickman of Glenville, and Charlene Dulude and husband Dean of Glenville; 9 grandchildren, Jonathan Rexroad and wife Tracy, Lisa Marie Phares and husband Alex, Michelle Jamison and husband Matt, Nathan Jamison, Jessica Hutchinson and husband David, Jacqulyn Swiger and husband Timothy, Ashley Moss Smith and husband Charlie, Travis Moss, and Daniel Dulude and companion Megan; he is also survived by 7 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents John was preceded in death by 1 sister, Phyllis Marie Carson.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV, 26351 at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 with Pastor Bryan Groves and Chaplin Bryon Bukovesky officiating. Burial will follow in the Steele Cemetery, on Turkey Fork. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (the funeral hour) Tuesday at the mortuary.
