FRONTIER COMMUNICATIONS CONTINUE CONTRACT TALKS FOR SEVENTH TIME - Legacy Workers Have Been Left Behind

(06/30/2014)
Frontier Communications and the Communications Workers of America have extended their contract talks for another month while negotiations continue for workers in West Virginia.

The current contract now expires on August 2.

It's the seventh contract extension since negotiations began, the contract was originally scheduled to expire last August. It covers 1,550 workers in West Virginia, between the company and the Communications Workers of America beginning last June.

Frontier, after purchasing Verizon, paid Verizon employees about $6 more per hour, leaving behind the 150 long-time legacy employees, mostly in West Virginia rural counties, including Calhoun.

The union, over several years, says it is trying to bring-up the wages of the legacy employees, but so far, without success.

Frontier said the existing contract will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 2. The contract was set to expire Saturday night. The company and the union have extended the contract several times since negotiations began in mid-June 2013. Frontier East Region vice president Ken Arndt said in a news release that the two sides have made substantial progress. The contract covers more than 1,500 workers in West Virginia.
