Silas G. Rader, 81, of Mineral Wells, W.Va., passed away in the arms of Jesus on May 10, 2014 at Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph's Campus.
He was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Cremo, Calhoun Co., a son of the late Lonnie E. and Roxie Sommerville Rader.
Silas is survived by his wife of 59 years, Berta Hein Rader of Ripley, W.Va.; four children, Patricia (Jack) Moore of Copperos Cove, Tex., Karl (Kelley) Rader of Washington, W.Va., Cindy (Tom) Meneo of Warren, Pa., and Tamera Owens of Washington, W.Va.; one brother, Jennings (Joyce) Rader of San Antonio, Tex.; one twin sister, Lilas "Dale" Barnes of Parkersburg; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany. He had been employed at Parkersburg Creamery Company and was a distributor for Seal Test Dairy Products. He also had worked at Kent's Sunoco, Burdette's Gulf Station and Pifer's Service Center. He was a lifetime member of the Paralyzed Veteran's of America, Disabled American Veterans of Cincinnati, OH, Veteran of Foreign Wars, Post 1212, and American Legion, Post 15 of Parkersburg. He was a member of Big Tygart Baptist Church, had previously attended Lauckport Baptist Church and was an avid reader of his Bible.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; and two sisters.
The family wishes to thank Mark and Judy Lemon, Roger Jordan, and his many friends and healthcare givers who assisted in his care.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 15 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastors Bill Thomas and Jerry Caplinger officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery with full military rite by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home.
