Thelma G. Jett, 97, of Looneyville, West Virginia, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Judy Myers, after an extended illness.
She was born June 14, 1916 at Kester, Roane County, a daughter of the late Joseph Herbert and Josie Frances Parker Smith, Sr.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E.R. "Herb" Jett; two sons, Larry R. Jett and Danny Ray Jett; a granddaughter, Sarah Beth Jett; two great grandsons, Daniel Steven Jett and Travis Heath Jett; seven brothers and seven sisters.
Mrs. Jett was a homemaker who found great joy in being a mother and grandmother. She also had a passion for serving the Lord. She was a member of the Newton Baptist Church and attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Newton. Prior to her illness, she was a faithful and active church member and served as the church clerk.
Mrs. Jett loved participating in Bible school and spending time in her garden. She was also a master Monopoly player, and she always made time to talk and visit with people. She was known as an expert quilter, and the one-of-a-kind creations she shared with family and friends are treasured reminders of her love.
Mrs. Jett is survived by her children, Ronald K. Jett of Looneyville, Catherine L. Foster of Cartersville GA, Terry A. Jett, Randall Blake Jett, Judy L. Myers and Jimmy W. Jett, all of Looneyville; 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 11 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastors Roy Huffman, Rick Perrine and Larry Foster officiating. Burial will be in the J. Herbert Smith, Sr. Family Cemetery, Vineyard Ridge, Looneyville. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
