Two Calhoun 8th grade students have been honored, receiving a West Virginia Golden Horseshoe.
They are Caroline McCumbers and Robert Twist IV. Their parents names and addresses not available.
It was a prestigious honor for more than 200 eighth graders as they got the Golden Horseshoe award Thursday and were inducted as knights and ladies of the Golden Horseshoe Society.
The award is for outstanding performance on the test measuring students' knowledge of the state's history and culture.
The top-scoring students in each county receive the award.
The Golden Horseshoe test has been administered in West Virginia each year since 1931 and is the longest-running program of its kind in the United States.
