WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Murder Suspect Charged With "Murder For Hire" On Charleston Policeman

MURDER FOR HIRE - A Charleston teenage murder suspect is facing a new charge after police say he hired two men to kill a Charleston police lieutenant Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives.

Darrell "DJ" Carter, 18, was charged with solicitation to commit murder, a felony. Police say he hired two men to kill Cooper for $15,000.

Carter was before a judge for his his latest arrests for murder and malicious wounding. He is now charged with solicitation to commit murder.

Police say Carter offered two men, Juhamar Bradshaw and an unidentified juvenile, $15,000 to murder the officer.

The money was to be split into two payments, half up front and half when the hit was complete, according to the criminal complaint.

Carter was apparently dissatisfied with Cooper's handling of a malicious wounding charge against him.

Police say Carter has gang ties.

Police say they are making efforts to see that the officer and his family are kept safe.

SELF DEFENSE SHOOTING CLAIMED - West Virginia State Police are investigating a Putnam County shooting that happened over the weekend in Winfield.

Police say two men got into a fight and Travis Lovejoy, 19, of Winfield, was shot in the torso.

The man who pulled the trigger is claiming it was self defense.

Lovejoy was taken to CAMC Teays Valley for evaluation.

No charges have been filed in the case at this time.
