GILMER'S PROPOSED CEDAR CREEK SCHOOL GETS $12.12 MIL SBA FUNDING

The WV School Building Authority approved $12.2 million dollars Monday for the new Gilmer County elementary school at Cedar Creek.

The new Cedar Creek school will replace aging elementary schools at Normantown, Sand Fork and Glenville.

The overall cost for the construction is $14.3 million, with Gilmer County funding $1.1 million and QZAB funding providing one million.

Students from the three schools being closed has selected "Wildcats" as the school motto.

Superintendent Ron Blankenship said the School Planning Committee, community and architects from Williamson & Shriver have been working tirelessly on the project. Another elementary school replacing Troy Elementary is being built as a joint project of Gilmer and Lewis counties, being constructed near the county line.
