US Senator Joe Manchin brought a flag flown over the US Capitol to be used at the new Arnoldsburg Elementary School.
The senator gave a history lesson about the US and WV flag, the WV flag was donated by Delegate David Walker, and Manchin encouraged students to get an education.
"Government and the people provide great new buildings like the Arnoldsburg school, but you must decide about the importance of learning, you're the important person here," Manchin said.
Manchin was welcomed by Arnoldsburg principal Jeannie Bennett and introduced by acting superintendent Dan Metz.
He took numerous questions from Arnoldsburg students who asked about Washington DC, being a US Senator, and how many guards are at the US Capitol.
Fourth grade student Abigail White led the Pledge.
A number of local officials attended the event, including Circuit Clerk Shelia Garretson, County Clerk Jean Simers, Assessor Jason Nettles, Sheriff Carl Ballengee, Commissioner Chip Westfall and Grantsville Mayor Curt Garretson.
