William Charles "Chuck" "Tap" Kerby, 71, of the Village of Hur, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 6, 2014 after complications from a stroke.
He was born in Calhoun County, son of the late Holly and Elizabeth Gibson Kerby. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a long haul truck driver for 42 years. Upon retirement he spent his time working on the Hur Community Church and helping his family and friends. He never knew a stranger and would gladly give his last dollar to anyone in need. He was a longtime member of the Mount Olive UM Church. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving is his wife of 49 years on May 1st, Phyllis Yeager Kerby; one son and his wife, William Jr. "Charlie Brown" and wife Billie Kerby and a daughter and her husband, Ronda and Kevin Rose all of the Village of Hur; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Laurrine Kerby of Pickerington, OH and Foster and Janet Kerby of Spencer, WV; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Harold "Bob" Duskey of Canvas, WV and Rev. Gene Kerby of Jackson, OH. He has five grandchildren, T.J., Quentin, Tyler, Holly, and Kevy Jay, all of Hur, WV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, Jeanette Lynn Kerby and four sisters, Pauline Duskey, Marie Kerby, Sue Kerby and Linda Kerby.
Funeral services will be held at the Hur Community Church at Hur, WV Saturday, April 12, 2014, 3:00 pm. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 pm prior to the service. Rev. Harold Duskey and Rev. Damon Hanshaw will be officiating. Burial will be in the Hur Cemetery with military graveside rites.
