Police said a fire started by an arsonist destroyed the home of Martha Bunch in
Fairmont, North Carolina over the weekend. Bunch, a former Calhoun resident, lost all
her belongings and her two dogs, who died from smoke inhalation in a cellar
house.
Authorities said the fire happened after midnight Saturday, the residence was broken
into and set on fire.
"Martha has been the victim of a terrible crime," said her sister, Kelley Yoak of
Grantsville.
Bunch, a Registered Nurse at a Lumberton, North Carolina hospital, contacted
authorities earlier last week when she became suspicious individuals had entered
her home.
Bunch, after graduating from Calhoun High in 1992, earned a nursing degree from
Glenville State College. She moved to North Carolina for employment about two years
ago.
She is the daughter of Lowell and Glenna Bunch of Millstone. In addition to Ms. Yoak,
she has three sisters, Debbie Sollars of Cleveland, Jennifer Day of Kentucky and April
Bunch of Millstone. She also has two brothers, Scott and Danny Bunch of
Grantsville.
The Bunch family and friends are asking for donations to help Martha get back on her
feet. Donations may be made to a fund established at the Calhoun Bank in
Grantsville.
