Ernest Elsworth Wagoner, 87, of Big Bend, WV, died March 23, 2014 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV, following a brief illness.
He was born January 25, 1927, the son of the late Charley Wagoner and Jane Cunningham Wagoner.
Ernest was a World War II veteran and a member of the Spruce Hollow Community Church.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Kirby Wagoner; two daughters, Brenda Roberts and Regina (Russell) Hupp of Creston, WV; four grandchildren, Travis (Ronda) Martin of Creston, Selena (Tommy) Cumberledge of Dunbar WV, Darris Hupp of Seatle WA and Chelsie (Adam) Sholes of Charleston WV; five great grandchildren, Shelby, Hunter, Caitlyn, Colt and Camryn. He is also survived by two sisters, Margie Sims of Parkersburg WV and Nellie Sims of Big Bend; one brother Hatzell Wagoner of Big Bend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Edward Roberts; seven brothers, Ora, Delmas, Paul, Ervin, Clyde, Carl and Olan Wagoner and one sister, Leona Taylor.
Funeral services will be held Friday March 28, 2014, 11:00 am at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville with Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday. Interment will be in the Wagoner Cemetery on Yellow Creek.
