84-year-old Fred Phelps, the founding pastor of a Kansas hate church has died.
The Westboro Baptist Church group has picketed at over 50,000 events and locations in the USA, including events held in West Virginia covered by the Hur Herald, most notably memorial services for miners.
The group was not met with open arms in the Mountain State, the group carrying signs calling for death to soldiers, miners and gays.
Phelps relished being called the most hated man in America, saying he served the true and living God of the Old Testament, and "would not change one thing about the judgments of God that await this deeply corrupted nation and world."
"If I had nobody mad at me, what right would I have to claim that I was preaching the Gospel?" he said.
