Ramps can be found if you know where to look. Peepers have made brief appearances. Days are getting longer. Nearby areas such as Cedar Creek have been stocked with trout. Look forward to the Calhoun Ponds being stocked with trout in the near future.

Spring is my personal favorite time of the year. Just last Monday, I was able to take advantage of some warm weather and hit the local largemouth pond. The bite was very slow and light, but I did convince three largemouth bass that they had to have what I was offering. Two were caught on tubes while the other was caught on a suspending jerkbait. Both baits are great cold water baits.

Look for the muskie bite to be heating up. As long as the Little Kanawha maintains a decent color, muskies will be available to the angler. Even if the Little Kanawha turns reddish brown, a muskie fisherman in the know will head to the backwaters. That is a great time to soak some large chubs or suckers under a bobber. However, please turn those muskies loose. Muskies must be thirty inches to legally keep. However, many females are not even ready to reproduce at thirty inches and the population would benefit from letting those fish go back into the water.
