WVU Calhoun County Extension Service is offering two chances to learn about Straw Bale Gardening and Cooking with Herbs, during its monthly Extension Road Show, on Wednesday, March 26.
You have two chances to attend: Louisa Chapel in Arnoldsburg, starting at 9:30 a.m., and First Baptist Church in Grantsville, starting at 2 p.m.
Gardening is a tradition for many West Virginians, and it is looked forward to every spring. Straw Bale Gardening is a type of gardening that is simple, less time consuming and fun. The class will teach you how to prepare straw bales for gardening, and all the vegetable you can plant.
If you are an individual that likes to garden but may not be physically able to garden in the traditional sense, this may be an alternative solution to allow you to still produce fresh vegetable in your back yard. In addition we will be discussing cooking with herbs and incorporating herbs in your straw bale garden.
People all over WV are learning that by cooking with herbs, you can add great flavor to many foods. Fresh herbs add great variety to your foods and they are fun and easy to grow. If you do not have fresh, dried herbs are still great to use.
Using herbs can help us to make our meals healthy without adding more fat and salt. In 30 minutes you will gain valuable information about growing, using and storing herbs.
RSVP is requested but not necessary. For questions about the Extension Road Show contact the WVU Calhoun County Extension Office at 304-354-6332.
