EMS ATTORNEY NO SHOW AT COMMISSION MEETING - "Many Questions, No Answers"

(03/12/2014)
Charleston attorney Timothy Lafon of Ciccarello, Del Giudice & LaFon was a no show at the Calhoun Commission meeting Monday, after scheduling to meet with the commissioners to answer questions regarding the collection of monies and the disposition of assets of the former Calhoun County Emergency Ambulance Service.

The law firm was among a number of groups contacted by the commission to obtain answers about the business affairs of the former ambulance service, which reportedly had been functioning without the action of a quorum of board members.

It is unclear who actually hired the law firm, or what duties they are performing in the collection of money, disposition of assets and payments to a long list of creditors.

Commission president Scottie "Chip" Westfall said, "There are many questions and no answers," saying that the former service received county, state and federal monies.

One issue is money owed to IRS, reportedly money related to the non-payment of withholding tax of employees.

"The commission has been seeking help to resolve the issue," said Westfall, indicating a forensic audit is in the works.
