Mildred Maxine Nichols, 81, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, in the Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington.
She was born March 2, 1933, at Gay, a daughter of the late Oscar and Virginia Whited Hartley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur L. "Mutt" Nichols in 1981; a son, Scotty Ray Nichols in 1952; a brother, Ray Hartley; and a sister, Helen Wheeler.
Mrs. Nichols was a retired cook at the Spencer Grade School and a cook at the Spring Heights United Methodist Church Conference Center, Spencer. She was a member of the Cherry Valley Church, near Spencer. Her hobbies included cooking for her family and quilting.
Survivors include two sons, Allen L. Nichols of Spencer and Richard B. Nichols of St. Augustine, FL; a brother, Gilbert Hartley of Sandyville; a sister, Madeline Young of Spencer; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Napier Cemetery, Gay, with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating. There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions are preferred to the American Heart Association, West Virginia Region, 162 Court Street, Charleston, WV 25301.
