Calhoun Schools is placing an operational levy on the May 13 primary ballot.
Calhoun schools is among a number of rural school systems with declining enrollment that is struggling financially to operate with the state's school aid formula and existing tax revenue.
It is among about a dozen county systems that does not have a local levy to support the system.
Currently, Calhoun schools is operating with an $850,000 deficit.
During a board meeting this week, the Calhoun Board of Education appointed Dan Metz as the interim superintendent of schools, replacing retiring Roger Propst.
Metz, a retired Wirt Co. superintendent, recently served as an interim superintendent in Roane County.
The board is currently engaged in a search for a new superintendent.
