SSgt Samuel Branden Davis was born on June 17, 1980 in Ripley, WV. He succumbed to complications due to his recent back surgery on Sunday, February 23, 2014 in Eagle River, Alaska.
His parents are Frederick Wheeler Davis, Jr, Zanesville, OH and Mary Evelyn (Potter) Davis of Spencer, WV. Samuel has one brother, Aaron Michael Davis residing in Pearl, MS.
Samuel graduated from Dutchfork High School in Irmo, SC and enlisted in the US Air Force in 2001. He completed basic training at Lackland AFB and advanced training at Sheppard AFB where he earned the Air Force Specialty Classification of Crew Chief.
Samuel served almost nine years as Crew Chief, 509th Maintenance Squadron, Whiteman AFB in Knob Noster, MO, Home of the Stealth Bomber. In November 2011, he was reassigned from Whiteman AFB to Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, Alaska as Crew Chief, 703rd AMXS(Aircraft Maintenance Squadron)/962nd AMU(Aircraft Maintenance Unit).
Samuel is survived by his mother, father, brother, wife, Robbin (Stephens) Davis, sons Luke Garhett Davis, Kolton and Nicklas Borchers of Marshall, MO; paternal relatives, grandmother, Audrey Mae (McDonald) Davis, uncle, Jack and Charlene Davis and children Matthew and Hope Davis, aunt, Karen (Davis) Tucker and daughter Tisha (Tucker) Cash, aunt, Audrey Mae (Davis) Markley and children Stephanie Markley and Brent Markley of Ohio, paternal stepmother Clevie (Hallman) Davis, paternal stepbrothers, Richard Scott Hallman, Jeffrey Todd Hallman, Sean Dale Orr and paternal stepsister Sylvia DeAnn (Orr) Soutullo of Mississippi. Surviving maternal relatives are aunt Donna (Potter) Anderson and husband Jeff Anderson, aunt Rebecca (Potter) Hildreth and husband John Hildreth, uncle Peter Potter and wife Denise Potter and uncle Timothy Potter.
Samuel was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Frederick Wheeler Davis, Sr, and aunt, Ellen Davis, Zanesville, OH. His maternal grandmother, Vonnie Potter and grandfather Robert Potter, Spencer, WV.
Funeral services for SSgt Davis will be conducted on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, WV. Interment with full Military Honors will take place at Clover Cemetery, Spencer, WV directly after the funeral service.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home Sunday morning and afternoon.
