Belva Maude Nichols Smith, 97, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia.
She was born April 20, 1916 in Roane County, a daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Rebecca Ray Nichols. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Cabin Creek Quilts.
Belva is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Ann Smith and Barbara Gordon, both of Spencer; three sons, Kenneth Smith of Witchita, Kansas, Johnny Smith of Mt. Olive, West Virginia, and Richard Smith of Spencer; three sisters, Ethel Nichols of Wallback, West Virginia, and Betty Longsworth and Roberta Barnhouse, both of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, William "Burl" Nichols and Alfred "Pete" Nichols, both of Spencer; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Smith; a daughter, Maysel Walker; five sons, Ben, Bob, George, Bill, and an infant, Lewis; and three brothers, Norville, Willington, and Seldon Nichols.
Service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, with Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Burial will follow in the Otto Cemetery. Visiting is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
