Macel Pearl Bowe Carpenter, 83, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Roane General Hospital in Spencer, West Virginia.
She was born December 13, 1930 on Rush Run in Orma, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Aristotle and Mary Jane Cottrill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oden Carpenter; a daughter, Jeannie McCumbers; three brothers, Victor Butler and Scott Butler, Jr., both of Orma, and Milton Butler of Creswell, Oregon; three sisters, Flossie French, Mae Coolidge, and Louisa Yearian, and a step-son-in-law, Romie Hersman.
A lifelong resident of Roane County, she worked and retired from Spencer State Hospital. She touched the lives of many people with her kind and gentle nature. The host of friends surviving Macel will always remember her love and most importantly her love of family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister and will be greatly missed.
She has one son, David Bowe and wife Macel Sue of Reedy, West Virginia; a daughter, JoRita Parsons and husband Rick of Spencer; one step-son, Richard Carpenter and wife Edna of Reedy; two step-daughters, Dottie Lou Hersman of Spencer and Sylvia Gibson of Reedy; a son-in-law, Danny McCumbers of Spencer; two brothers, Tom Butler of Spencer and Charlie Butler of Reedy; one sister, Nina Conley of Chloe, West Virginia; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Service will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, with Rev. Tim Couch officiating. Burial will be in the Noble Cemetery near Peniel, West Virginia. Visiting will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
