Goodbye Roane and Parkersburg Catholic. Hello Tygarts Valley and Tug Valley.
That's the big news on Calhoun's 2014 football schedule announced recently at the WVSSAC web site.
The Red Devils, coming off an 0-10 season in 2013, decided to jettison two of the biggest winners (the amount they beat Calhoun by) in an effoprt to make the playing field a little more even for the Red Devils.
So, instead of Parkersburg Catholic (a 56-6 victor over the Red Devils) there is Tygarts Valley, another long suffering team.
Ironically the two schools last met about 8-10 years ago in the playoffs with Tygarts Valley coming out on top.
The other team to leave the schedule was Roane. The Raiders put a 36-6 beating on the Red Devils last year and are being replaced by Tug Valley, school in Wayne County that is the merger of Kermit, Crum and Fort Gay high schools about two decades ago.
Calhoun opens its season on Aug. 29 at Gilmer County.
After home games against Sherman and Doddridge it travels to Tygarts Valley on Sept. 19 for what will be the longest trip of the year.
After that the Red Devils return home for games against Tyler Consolidated and South Harrison before traveling to St. Marys for an Oct. 10 encounter.
Tug Valley comes to Calhoun on Oct. 17 for what will be the Red Devils' final home game as they finish out the season on the road at Wirt and Clay.
The schedule:
Aug. 29 at Gilmer
Sept. 5 Sherman
Sept. 12 Doddridge
Sept. 19 at Tygarts Valley
Sept. 26 Tyler Consolidated
Oct. 3 South Harrison
Oct. 10 at St. Marys
Oct. 17 Tug Valley
Oct. 24 at Wirt
Oct. 31 at Clay
