As part of my service with AmeriCorps, I will be doing several service projects in the community. First on my list that I would like to try is a Firewood drive, similar to a clothing or food drive. My current plan is to have a designated pick up location in Calhoun that people would be able to pick up bundles of firewood. As far as I can tell, this has not been attempted in this area before. So of course I am open to any and all suggestions, or offers to volunteer to make this a successful community project.

Also, if you know of a family or individual that is in need of firewood, please let me know. I would also like to have a limited delivery service if there is a need and someone is unable to come out to pick up. I would like to note that this is not just limited to Calhoun residents. If there is someone In surrounding counties (Gilmer, Braxton, etc) that could benefit from this as well, they are welcome to attend the drive. I am also looking for volunteers to assure that this be a successful project.

Please remember that volunteerism can be in many forms. If you would like to donate wood, or assist in bundling and preparing for the event day, please let me know. It is my goal to assure that our citizens have what they need to stay warm this winter.

I know that in some rural areas, we rely solely on wood burning for warmth. Again, I am open to any and all suggestions. Please feel free to contact me. You can either call 304-354-6101 ext 203 or email me sarah.m.crouch@wv.gov.

A date has not been set at this time, as I am still in the planning stages of this event. I would like to thank those who I have already met with concerning this project, and to those who have agreed to help in some way or another. Thank you in advance, and I hope to be hearing from some of you soon.
