Iverson Velvy Linger, Jr., 72, of Newton WV, passed away, Sunday, January 5, 2014, at his home.
He was born October 12, 1941, in Kanawha County, the son of the late Iverson Velvy and Goldie Marie Smith Linger, Sr.
Velvy was a retired equipment operator for the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of the I.U.O.E., Local 132, Charleston. Velvy was a Christian; he was baptized into the fellowship of the Newton Baptist Church, Newton on the 28th day of June 2009 and often attended the Walnut Memorial Church, Chloe. He enjoyed farming and playing gospel music.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married August 10, 1963, Juanita B. Hensley Linger of Newton; three sons, Richard Kevin Linger of Milton WV, David Bruce Linger and Philip Edwin Linger both of Newton; two sisters, Karen Linger and Frances Linger both of Clemmons NC; three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, January 10 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ron Fisher and the Rev. Lester Tanner officiating. Burial will be in the Laurel Point Cemetery, Newton.
