Record highs were broken for December 22, 2013 with highs in the 70's across West Virginia. Currently, we are breaking record low temperatures. Bluefield, Lewisburg, and Morgantown all set records for January 7th with lows of negative seven or less.
What's the coldest recorded temperature in West Virginia? First of all, remember that these temperatures have to be certified. They can't be from a thermometer in a holler back near Spruce Knob. Today, the weather records are usually based by weather stations at airports. However, on December 30, 1917 the temperature dipped to a frigid -37 in Lewisburg.
The warmest temperature ever in West Virginia was recorded on July 10, 1936 in Martinsburg. The temperature was a scorching 112.
