James "Jim" Ayers, 81, of Newark, W.Va., passed away on December 26, 2013 at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus with family by his side.
He was born October 18, 1932, in Southside Parkersburg, Wood Co., W.Va., a son of the late James C. and Sylvia D. Beckett Ayers.
Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. He retired from Corning Glass with 33 years of service. After leaving the war and during his time at Corning, he spent 32 years with friends of Bill W. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Ayers of Parkersburg and Kim Ayers Vilhauer (Doug) of South Dakota; two sons, Jim Ayers (Linda) of Pennsylvania and Mike Ayers of Parkersburg; one stepdaughter, Debbie Whitten Vincent of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; one brother, Bill Ayers of Vienna, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Lou Stephens and Donna Ayers Wilson; brother-in-law, Darrell Stephens; sister-in-law, Millie Ayers; and one niece, Sharon Werth.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike St., south Parkersburg with Pastor Sam Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
The family requests that friends and family gather after the service for food and fellowship at the 14th Avenue Gospel Mission Church, 4124 14th Ave., South Parkersburg, W.Va. |
