Velva Oreda Paxton Summerfield, 86, of Spencer, West Virginia, devoted wife for 59 years to Hubert W. Summerfield, went home to be with the Lord, November 16, 2013. She was born April 28, 1927.
She was cared for through an extended illness by her loving husband, Hubert for several years and later by the angels among the staff at Miletree, where she received excellent care.
Mrs. Summerfield was preceded in death by her parents, Albert James Paxton and Abbie Hester Reynolds Paxton; two brothers, W. Dee Paxton of Corpus Christi TX and John Paxton of Left Hand WV; a sister, Maxine Crihfield of Evans WV; a grandson, Lee Michael Summerfield of Spencer.
In addition to her husband, Hubert, whom she married March 13, 1954, survivors include a sister, Doris Lemaster; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Debra of Ripley WV, Larry "Sammy" and Cheryl of Spencer, Steve and Jeanne of Abingdon VA; eight grandchildren, David, Jason, Emily, Callie, Stevie, Jordan, Chad and Alex; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Velva loved to sew, quilt and cook in addition to taking care of and enjoying her family and many friends. She was a former employee of Kellwood and a homemaker. She was a long time member of the Boggs Fork Community Church.
Velva was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Russell B. Stump, II, officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 p.m.
