(11/13/2013)
The Calhoun Commission heard Tuesday that the recent tax sale for delinquent taxes was one of the largest sales in recent history.

The sheriff's department reported that 118 parcels had been sold, resulting in $132,000 for delinquent taxes, while holders have an extended period of time to redeem their property.

"It has been harder for people to come up with their tax payment," reported Trevia Fulks with the Sheriffs Department.

During Tuesday's meeting, Minnie Hamilton Health System CEO Steve Whited gave a report on the first six months of MHHS operating the county-wide ambulance system.

The service reported average response times during the six month period. From the Grantsville station 13 minutes and the Arnoldsburg station 18.5 minutes.

"This is pretty remarkable, considering the locations and crooked roads," Whited said.

The service made 297 calls from the Grantsville VFD station, 264 calls from the Arnoldsburg station, and 65 calls from MHHS, for a total of 626 runs for six months.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council reported that everything is go for the demolition of buildings in Grantsville, the contracts having been issued using county funds leftover from a flood mitigation project.

- Sharon Earl was approved as a part-time employee in the County Clerk's office.

- Carl Shaw appeared proposing a "tax the land" idea that would create improved revenues and improve development.

The next commission meeting is set for December 9.
