There will be a special program honoring local veterans Sunday, November 17 at 2 P. M. at the Creston Community Building. All area veterans, their friends and family are urged to attend. There will be refreshments and time to visit, share experiences, pictures, memorabilia, etc. Those on the program include former Wirt County Commissioner Roy Copen, State Senator Donna Boley , Delegate Anna Border Sheppard & state veterans affairs man, Mr. Cokeley. Those who have no veterans in their immediate family are urged to come to thank those who have served so that all may be free. The famous quote is, "The land of the free because of the brave". On the national scene the big eared one's spokesbabe at the United Nations gave kudos to Hanoi Jane Fondue, John Heintz-Kerry's pal. She gave aid and comfort to the enemy in Hanoi [and elsewhere] and caused additional suffering for the brave Americans who were in the POW camps there, the so called Hanoi Hilton.

Dorothy Lynch, Joan Auvil, June Godfrey & Cap'n Eddie Norman were calling on Euell Russell & Ray Gumm at the Miletree center in Spencer.

There was quite a bit of talk about the elections in Virginia & New Jersey. It is understood that the big boys in the Republican & Democrat parties made a deal that the Democrats would not make a serious challenge against Christie since he is liberal and the Republican establishment would work with the Democrats to sabotage Cuccinelli since he didn't suck up to the party bosses and be a "moderate or maverick" & promote big government.

Some folks with local connections were apprehended growing, shall we say, non traditional crops. Elsewhere the "elites" continue to attack tobacco and promote drug use. George Soros and the Teamsters Union have been big pushers for the promotion of drug use. One of the problems for employers in West Virginia is getting men who can pass the "tinkle test" and the lily livered liberals object when drug testing is proposed for welfare recipients. In a recent national survey it was noted that 34% of adults not in the work force said that they had no intention of looking for a job. While there may be a few who are kept by mommy & daddy, the most are kept by "Uncle Sugar" which means that the tax paying citizens are supporting these folks in their life of ease.

CNX (Consol) announced that they were planning to drill horizontal Marcellus wells in Troy District of Gilmer County. They offered one mineral owner $1,500/acre [Big Cove] and another $2,000/A [Little Cove] for leases [all strata and storage] and one of the landmen took offence when he was reminded that Noble paid CNX $7,100/acre for the Marcellus rights. Energy Corporation of America has indicated that they have a pad planned near Glenville and of course Noble/CNX has already drilled a number of laterals at the Meadows pad at Normantown and a water containment is already in place near Stumptown.

The state tax department has been sending out statements showing increases in value especially as related to coal in spite of the decrease in mining and the full fledged attack against the use of coal in America.

Antero, the outfit that is planning to drill under Pennsboro, threatened a property owner with a partition suit to take her property because she had not agreed to a modification of an old lease. Of course the option presented was not a fair value for the owner that Antero threatened. Such antics might be referred to as "dirty pool". Antero is working to have the state legislature do "forced pooling" so the big boys can take people's property under the terms they want and some feel that this would be the greatest theft of property from West Virginia since the coal folks paid 80 cents/acre for met coal and all other minerals in the smokeless coal fields, the flat rate gas wells that made the Rockefellers multibillionaires, etc. Antero has been in the news again because of accidents on their locations with some contractors noting that they would rather work on other folks' locations.

As a result of a spark, a service rig caught on fire on Burning Springs Run one day last week. A "helpful" person called in the EPA and the Division of Forestry but they quickly left after reviewing the scene & determining that there had been no explosion [except for a pressure can sitting on the rig]. No one was injured but the service rig was burned to a crisp.

Mr. & Mrs. Dean Miller, Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Engelke & Mr. & Mrs. Gary Jones represented Calhoun & Wirt Counties at the W. Va. Farm Bureau's annual meeting at Flatwoods. Sen. Donna Boley was there to introduce a speaker about the "Common Core" federal class room curriculum which Farm Bureau voted to oppose. Shelly Moore Capito was there and talked with the ladies. One of the main functions of the meeting was to work on policy which will be pushed when the folks gather down at the Mouth of the Elk. An excellent program was given on estate planning and another good program was a review of a young farmer's cow calf operation which minimized the feeding of grain which makes things more expensive. Some folks this year reported yields of corn of 220 bu/acre.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude fell to $91.70/bbl with drip (Appalachian light sweet) fetching $71.30, Marcellus & Utica light $84.81 and medium $93.20/bbl.
