THOMAS CREATES CALHOUN CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT FOR GOVERNOR'S TREE

(11/12/2013)
The Governor's Mansion staff asked the West Virginia Association of Counties that each county provide a Christmas ornament for a "County Christmas Tree" at the Governor's mansion, according to County Clerk Jean Simers.

The ornament was to be something symbolic of Calhoun County.

Lorri Cunningham, art teacher at Calhoun High School was asked to help with the project.

Joseph Thomas, son of Charles and Earlene Thomas, designed and created Calhoun County's ornament for the Governor's Christmas tree.

The gem marking Grantsville is dark green and the hanger is made of silver with an Australian Crystal in the center.

Along the sides, (not shown) are equally spaced tear drop Australian Crystals.

On the back is hand written in calligraphy, "Calhoun." Joseph designed, cut and wood burned the roads.

He received a $25 Wal-Mart card for his efforts.
