THURSDAY: DR. GARY NELSON SPEAKING AT CMHS PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE - "A Relentless Hope: Surviving the Storm of Teen Depression"

(10/31/2013)
Calhoun County Middle-High School will be holding parent-teacher conferences this Thursday, October 31st at the middle-high school.

Many changes have come with the move to "common core". Administration and teachers will be here to help you better understand the changes and how, if any, it impacts your student, along with the grades your child received.

As a parent of school age children, you were asked in a previous survey, what needs the school could help address in the community, that will help children develop the clarity and confidence they need to grow in positive strength during their school years.

One of the targeted areas of concern was recognizing and understanding mental illness.

Calhoun School District along with the help of Nancy Creighton, Children's Outreach Liaison with Westbrook Health Services, local parents and clergy have been able to schedule Dr. Gary Nelson, author of the book, "A Relentless Hope: Surviving the Storm of Teen Depression," to be here on the 31st to discuss teen depression. How teens become depressed. What depression feels like? How we identify it and most importantly how teens and family members must work together to fight depression.

You are invited to come Thursday to conference with your child's teacher and to discover with Dr. Nelson why depression kills more teens than any other medical illness.
