The state Public Service Commission has been taking testimony from upset customers of Mon Power and Potomac Edison in connection with a PSC general investigation into the companies' meter reading and billing practices.
At the core of the problem is the companies failure to read meters on a regular basis.
Estimated meter reading in WV is for not more than one month.
The complaints indicate meters have not been read, in some cases, up to five months.
A Calhoun man said he moved out of his small home when he got a $700 bill from Mon Power. "I couldn't pay such a bill and I had to do something," he said.
The WV-PSC has heard from customers regarding the problem, and launched an investigation.
The company is saying a number of changes happened to their billing processes, compounded by the derecho and Hurricane Sandy.
Customers should call 1-800-686-0022.
