The VFW Auxiliary 5959 held their monthly meeting in the Auxiliary
Meeting Room at the VFW Post Tuesday, October 9, at 6:00 p.m.
District President Patsy Greiner was the guest as she was there
to inspect the Auxiliary determining the group is following by-laws and procedures.
The District President advised the Auxiliary that the present uniform
(jacket, skirt, slacks, blouse) would be replaced by just a shirt. This year it will be yellow. Officers are to wear uniforms when they are representing the
Auxiliary.
General Orders from Department of West Virginia VFW
Auxiliary, indicated the National President, Armithea (Sissie) Borel
would visit West Virginia at Grafton on October 22th to the 24th. VFW
Tiger Lake Post and Auxiliary 3081 of Grafton, will host the visit
at their post. For reservations to visit with her you may call
1-304-265--6144 for information.
Attention All Veterans: The Veterans Mobile Health Unit will be
located in Grantsville at the VFW Post 5959 on October 31st
from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to offer medical care to All veterans.
They will be able to serve your medical needs each month if
there are enough veterans to attend to take advantage. They
need a minimum of 40 veterans to attend to make this a
monthly stop. If you have medical needs, please attend this
visit on October 31st to register with the unit. No appointments
are needed for this date. If they have a minimum of 40 veterans
as patients, they can make this a regular monthly visit which
will eliminate your trips to Spencer to the Unit or in many cases,
to Clarksburg.
GRANTSVILLE'S HALLOWEEN PARTY OCTOBER 26TH will
give the Auxiliary an opportunity to participate and meet those
of our community. The Auxiliary will serve FREE hotdogs
and hot chocolate as well as give candy to the Trick or Treaters
beginning at 5:00 p.m.....in the Auxiliary Meeting Room. (The
Meeting Room is separate from the Post's Canteen). Soft
drinks may be purchased from the Auxiliary.
The Auxiliary now has a one bedroom apartment available for
rent that includes all utilities and TV access. You must provide
your own phone service. The money rendered from this rent
goes toward paying regular expenses as well as donating
a lot of this money to the various worthy projects of the
community, the youth programs, and especially aiding
veterans in need. It does not go into "one" person's pocket.
The Auxiliary does lot of community work that is not "advertised" but
done as a community service.
The Calhoun Chronicle has printed a photo of Post
members who donated a United States flag to the West
Fork Committee on Aging. The CCCOA West Fork
nutritionist coordinator, Marty Park, expressed their
appreciation of the flag donation. Those attending the
presentation were Donald Walker, Bob Walker, Larry
Craddock, Keith Tanner, Jim Sturm and Marie Tanner.
VFW Post 5959 has placed many flags at cemeteries that have
Veterans buried there (where there had been no flag) in
honor of those who had fought for our country to retain
the freedoms we have enjoyed.
The next VFW Auxiliary meeting will be the second
Tuesday of the month, November 8th at 6:00 p.m. (The
Post will hold their meeting November 8th at 7:00 p.m.).
Members are encouraged to attend as we will be
collecting donated socks to be sent to the VA Hospital
in Clarksburg for Christmas.
I want to thank the Hur Herald for printing my Newsletter
as this is our way of informing our community of our
work for our veterans and our community.
