| Jeffery Todd Shears, 48 of Lewisburg WV, passed away Saturday September 28, 2013, unexpectedly after doing what he enjoyed, broadcasting a high school football game on television for Greenbrier East.
He was a 1983 graduate of Wirt County High School, 1987 graduate of Marshall University with honors. He was the Mayor of Elizabeth WV from 1989 to 1992, and employed by Astra Zeneca Pharmaceutical for several years as a sales representative, and was listed in the top 3 in sales in the United States.
Jeff umpired for high school and college baseball games, enjoyed reading Stephen King books and was an avid Steelers fan.
He is survived by his parents Phil (Sandy) Shears of Elizabeth and Janet (Richard) Moore of Mineral Wells WV; grandmother Dortha Shears of Elizabeth; 2 daughters Jasmine Shears of Belpre Ohio and Sara Wagoner Brumfield (Joe) of Athens Ohio; one granddaughter Athena Brumfield of Athens; brother Steve Shears of Elizabeth; and
stepsister Ashley (Alan) Wanosky of Parkersburg WV; nephew Dylan Shears and niece Kaylie Shears both of Elizabeth; fiancée Pat Surber of Lewisburg; and his faithful companion, his dog, "Memphis"; several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
He is preceded in death by one stepbrother Aaron Bland; grandparents Frank Shears and Howard and Bernice Snyder.
Services will be Friday October 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Elizabeth United Methodist Church with Pastor Everett Snyder officiating. Visitation will be Thursday October 3, 2013 2-4 and 6-8 at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth WV and Friday from 9 am until time of service at the Elizabeth Methodist Church.
