GLENVILLE, WV - Glenville State College faculty, staff, students, alums, and friends will be celebrating the 2013 homecoming during the week of September 30th. Members of the GSC Student Government Association and Homecoming Committee have planned a week full of activities. The theme for this year's event is 'That '70s Ville.' The theme was chosen to celebrate the 40th anniversary of GSC's 1973 NAIA National Runner-Up Football Team which will be honored during Homecoming Weekend.
The homecoming coronation will kick off the week's events on Monday, September 30th at 5:00 p.m. This ceremony will be held in the center of campus at the Luanna T. Smith Amphitheatre. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Presidents Auditorium in the Harry B. Heflin Administration Building.
A campus picnic lunch will be held on Thursday, October 3rd in the amphitheater. Additionally, the GSC Student Government Association will sponsor the homecoming dance on Thursday at 9:00 p.m. in the Mollohan Campus and Community Center Ballroom.
Friday, October 4th, will be a day full of homecoming activities. The Pioneer Athletic Club is sponsoring their second annual 'Pioneer Steak Grill' at I.L. and Sue Morris Stadium from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The 'Grillin and Chillin' menu, at $25 for singles and $45 for couples, will consist of a ribeye steak (grill your own or let a coach grill it for you), potatoes, salad, beverage, and dessert. Participants will be given an opportunity to tour the upgraded facilities at Morris Stadium during this time. Advance tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased by calling (304) 462-6220. Later that evening, the annual bonfire will be held in conjunction with a chili cook-off. Both events begin at 8:00 p.m. in the amphitheater on campus.
"Members of SGA and the GSC Homecoming Committee encourage alumni, community members, and current Pioneers to get involved in the events that have been planned. We are still taking entries for both the chili competition and parade," said GSC Student Government Association President Travis Nesbitt.
The Homecoming Parade begins on Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Glenville. GSC Professor Emeritus Charles 'Rick' Sypolt (GSC '75) will serve as homecoming parade marshal. Pre-game festivities at Morris Stadium will begin at 1:00 p.m. The 2013 homecoming court, Clarissa Williams Award recipient Marteney Jacobs (GSC '13), and Frank Montrose Award Winner Tanner Collins (GSC '13) will be presented at this time. Additionally, GSC's Marching Band will have performances both during pre-game festivities and at halftime. The afternoon's homecoming game will feature the GSC Pioneers and the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats in battle at 1:30 p.m. at Morris Stadium. Members of the 1973 NAIA National Runner-Up Team will be honored during halftime.
Closing out homecoming week on Sunday, October 6th is the annual GSC Alumni Tribute Golf Tournament which will be held at the Glenville Golf Club beginning at 1:00 p.m. For information about entering, call (304)462-6238 or (304)462-6138.

This is a wonderful opportunity for alums to visit with their former classmates, reminisce about their time at Glenville State College and enjoy lots of good ole Pioneer camaraderie. We welcome our returning alumni from near and far and hope that many of them will come early on Friday evening to attend the PAC Fundraiser and bonfire as well as participate in all of Saturday's activities and Sunday's Golf Tournament," said Debbie Nagy, GSC Alumni Director and Special Assistant to the President.
