Friday was the 13th day of September, or, Friday the 13th.
That's a day when you are supposed to have bad luck.
But that bad luck thing seems to work on some but not others.
That was the case this Friday 13th when bad luck laid all over Calhoun but seemed to skip Doddridge as the homestanding Bulldogs pummeled the Red Devils 45-8.
How bad was things on the Calhoun sidelines?
Five fumbles bad.
How bad?
Nine yards rushing in 29 attempts bad.
How bad?
One hundred yards total offense bad.
How bad?
Seven punts bad and those punts going for only a 27.0 yard average.
How bad?
Three first downs bad.
How bad?
It was bad.
And on the Doddridge side?
The Bulldogs didn't have any trouble with the Friday 13th jinx.
Instead they rang up 19 first downs and 437 yards total offense. But they did fumble the ball away twice.
Wyatt Ford was the biggest winner in the face of the Friday 13th jinx as the Bulldog running back rushed for 192 yards on 25 carries while scoring four touchdowns.
Wyatt got Doddridge on the board with an eight-yard run in the second quarter. His second touchdown, this one on a four-yard pass from David Lipscomb - actually proved to be the winning points. The rest of the points were just to see how big of a win it was going to be.
But Ford was in on those points too as he scored on two more runs.
Doddridge also had two touchdowns from Jarod Sandy and one more from Christian Arbogast.
Calhoun's only score came on a 51-yard pass from Casey Ritchie to Ethyn Miller in the fourth quarter. The two also connected for the extra points.
Dylan Heiney led Calhoun's running attack with five yards on two carries while Miller was the leading receiver with three receptions for 57 yards. Mason Sheldon hauled in two passes for seven yards while Casey Ritchie and Lucas Wilson both had one receptions with Ritchie's going for 16 yards and Wilson's for 11.
Ritchie also led the passing attack with five completions in seven attempts for 84 yards while Logan Moore completed two of six for seven yards.
Calhoun, now 0-3, will return to the friendly confines of Calhoun Stadium next Friday night when Parkersburg Catholic travels to Mount Zion. Doddridge, 3-0, will entertain Wirt the same night. |
