CALHOUN CIRCUIT COURT HAD BUSY WEEK - Twelve Cases On Dockets

"It was a busy court week," said Prosecutor Shannon Johnson, with court in session two days.

Johnson said the the following actions taken:

- Jerry Glenn McKown, Jr., a motion to continue trial by the defendant granted, related to meth charges, a pretrial hearing on September 16 and set for jury trial on October 15.

- Christopher Lamp, facing charges related to the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old Braxton female. Motion to continue trial by state, pretrial hearing on September 16, trial set for October 15.

- Dustin Hilligas, plead guilty to possession with intent to deliver and delivery of a controlled substance, a felony, petit larceny, a misdemeanor. Sentencing set for September 16.

- Nancy Hillegas, joint motion to continue trial, pretrial hearing on September 16, jury trial set for October 15.

An indictment charged both Hillegases with burglary and conspiracy, both felonies, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

- James Blankenship, a case bound over from Circuit Court on July 11 with counsel for the defendant arguing that the bond set by the Magistrate Court was excessive and should be reduced or modified.

The State opposed the motion arguing that the bond was appropriate given the seriousness of the offense and for the safety of the community, the defendant's bond should remain the same.

The court, after considering the arguments of the parties, granted the motion and reduced the defendant's bond to $17,000 Cash, Surety, or Property.

As a condition of bond, the defendant shall be placed on home confinement with electronic monitoring. The Court denied any request for a waiver of the home confinement fees.

- Danny Lane, court sentenced the defendant to six months in jail on each charge of possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, as contained in the information filed against the defendant.

The court ordered that the sentences be served consecutively. The court noted that the defendant shall receive credit for the time served, with the defendant being discharged from his sentence. He was ordered to pay court costs and attorneys fees as to be determined by the Calhoun County Circuit Clerk.

- Zachary Thomas, case set for pretrial hearing on September 16, Jury trial on October 15.

Thomas was indicted on one count of breaking and entering, a felony; one count of receiving and transferring stolen goods, a felony; one count of grand larceny, a felony; one count of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; one count of no insurance, a misdemeanor; and one count of no registration, a misdemeanor.

The charges allege that Thomas broke into a hunting camp on Hattie's Run Road in August, 2012.

- Gary Ferrell, who was indicted on four counts of possession with intent to deliver and delivery of a controlled substance, related to morphine and hydrocodone. A pretrial was held on August 12, the defendant moved to continue to next term of court with a trial set for February 18, 2014.

- Jason Bell plead guilty to possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and a pretrial diversion on conspiracy to operate a clandestine drug laboratory, a felony; sentencing set for January 8, 2013.

- Ordie Rogers Jr., related to the death of his infant child, trial set for December 17.

- Charles "Bucky" Bell, the court granted defendants motion to move to next term of court, trial set for December 17, related to meth charges.

- Issac Paul Bell, the court granted defendants motion to move to next term of court with trial set for December 17, related to meth charges.
