Little Kanawha Bus is expanding bus service to Gilmer County, the fourth county to be served by the transit company, according to administrator Darlene Crane.
The West Virginia Department of Public Transit has approved the Little Kanawha Transit expansion to Gilmer County, providing service three days a week.
A planning meeting will be held at the
Committee on Aging in Glenville on August 15th at
6:00 p.m..
Crane said this meeting is open to the public, an opportunity to give input regarding routes and schedules.
The bus service has expanded public transportation to Roane and Jackson County since its' first passenger boarded in Calhoun in 1999.
LK Bus has been a real success story, growing from transporting a handful of passengers with a couple buses to transporting about 4,000 passengers a month with a fleet of 12 vehicles.
"We go the extra distance to help our riders," said Crane, often meeting specialized needs and people who have mobility impairment.
Crane, a success story herself, started with the bus project in 1998 as an AmeriCorp worker, originally working as a dispatcher.
"It's been a wonderful challenge to see it grow," said Crane.
The transit company recently dedicated a new facility for its' operations at Mt. Zion.
