Billy Deweese has held close to the Calhoun sod
By Bob Weaver 2013
Billy Deweese, 73, of Milo is among the last members of the historic Deweese family by name living in Calhoun, a descendent of Balis Deweese and Col. C. S. Deweese, author of "Recollections of a Lifetime," the only written account of people living in Calhoun during the 19th Century.
The Deweeses will be recalled as being families close to the sod.
Billy lives with his wife Carolyn Hale Deweese on a picturesque farm on Milo Road, where he once raised lots of cattle.
"I used to keep every bit of brush cleared on the place," he said.

Billy is still connected to his neighbors, giving them a helping hand. "Helping each other, that's the way it's suppose to be," he said.
Billy has followed the path of his father.
Donzel DeWeese, who died at 89, was a soldier, farmer, cattleman and fox hunter, and long held close to the Calhoun earth as did his family before him.

The DeWeeses knew planting, hoeing, cattle raising, brush cutting, the horse and the plow, and most importantly the preparation of food for the winter.
