West Virginians, according to national researchers, are among the most unhealthy in the USA.
A new report issued by Gallup claims Charleston and Huntington rank in the top five cities in the USA where people have the most heart attacks.
One of the reasons for the cities high rating is likely because of the medical centers located there, serving a large regional community.
Heart attacks happen when an artery leading to the heart gets blocked.
Sometimes that's caused by a chronic disease that's genetically driven, but researchers say that smoking, poor eating habits, and a lack of exercise are major causes.
"Warning signs could be variable," Dr. Robert Beto, a cardiologist with the WVU Heart Institute.
"Your prototypical warning sign is heaviness in the middle of your chest, under your breast bone associated with shortness of breath."
