Olive Swiney, 92 - formerly of Roane County

Olive Swiney, 92, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Roane County, was called away on July 23, 2013 to be with her Lord after a brief illness at Orlando East Hospital.

She was born May 19, 1921 in Spencer, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Delvin and Eva Parsons Blosser. She was retired from the Spencer State Hospital and also was a retired United Pentacostal preacher with 60 years of preaching with several churches under her direction. She was instrumental in forming the Walton United Pentacostal Church in Walton, West Virginia and was a 1938 graduate of Spencer High School where she was valedictorian of her class.

Surviving Olive are her children, Mike (Karen) Swiney of Parkersburg, West Virginia, Jerry Swiney of Teays Valley, West Virginia, John (Susan) Swiney and Ron Gerwig, all of Orlando, Judy Young of Columbus, Ohio, and David (Linda) Swiney of Lodi, Ohio; her sisters, Nina (James) Mecca and Wanda (Oren) Waggoner, all of Follansbee, West Virginia, and Hallie Nichols and Ruth (Vic) Hornbeck, all of Spencer; her brother, Delvin (Murdane) Blosser, Jr. of Ripley, West Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and a granddaughter, Annette Jacques, who was her caregiver in Orlando.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Gerwig of Orlando.

Olive's funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, with Pastor Richard Waggoner officiating. Burial will follow in the Droddy-Canterbury Cemetery in Walton. Visiting hours are Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
