The honorary dinner has been canceled due to a scheduling conflict.
One of Grantsville's grand ladies will be honored with a community dinner Sunday, June 30 at the Calhoun County Committee on Aging, Grantsville Center starting at 1 p.m.
Helen Kight Hamilton is leaving her home county of many years, moving to Marietta, Ohio. Her presence in the community has always involved a smile and warm greeting.
Helen's parents were Dallas and Gene Hope Kight, growing up at White Pine. After the third of three major floods wiped out most of the buildings, they moved to higher ground at Pleasant Hill and then to Grantsville.
Helen married lawyer Victor Hamilton in 1949. They had three children, Janet Hamilton Coberly, Victor Hamilton and Roger Hamilton. Her son Victor died in 1997 and husband Victor passed in 1998.
The dinner will be provided at no cost and feature Jim Sullivan's chicken with all the trimmings. Desserts provided by Crystal Brewer.
Organizers said that those who have known Helen throughout their lives wanted to give our county an opportunity to come show respect to the whole Hamilton family throughout the years.
