The results of the 2012 West Virginia Big Buck Contest are in. Randall Arnold's Calhoun County buck ranked third in the entire state with a score of 160 3/8ths inches. No other Calhoun County bucks made the minimum of 140 inches for gun or 125 for bow.

However, Wirt County proved that it has some deer carrying good headgear inside its borders. William Crothers II killed a 173 inch deer with a muzzleloader.

On opening day of archery season Michael Fleak killed a 150 3/8ths inch buck. Michael was the only hunter in the state to register two trophy bucks as he harvested a 137 inch deer on October 3rd, 2012. Harvesting two trophy deer in the same year with a bow is a major accomplishment that anyone should be proud of completing.

Bobby Frame of Braxton County killed a 155 1/8th inch buck with archery gear. Eric Frame and Michael Miller both killed trophy bucks over 140 inches in Clay County.

Gilmer, Ritchie, and Roane Counties did not have any entries. If anyone is wondering what the inches means, that is total inches of length and mass on a deer's antlers. Anything over 125 takes a spread of over 16 inches or eight or ten tines with measurements up to ten inches.
